The classicist palace located on the Dam Square began its life in the 17th century as a city hall. Its construction started in 1648 and the city hall was opened for the first time in 1655. During the reign of Louis Napoleon, it was turned into the royal palace. Nowadays, it is one of the three palaces that belong to the royal family.
