San Francisco City Hall

Government • San Francisco, California United States

The government of the City and County of San Francisco is seated at this impressive Beaux-Arts building. The original old City Hall, which the current one replaced, was finished in 1899 but it was completely destroyed during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The present-day City Hall was finished in 1915. It has the tallest dome in the US (even taller than the dome of the Capitol Building in Washington).

It is a popular wedding place, all the more popular since Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio there in 1954.

There are no entrance fees and free guided tours are organised Monday through Friday. However, for groups of eight and more people, the tour must be booked online (at least 4 weeks prior to the visit) and there are also fees.
